St Mary's recognises 2018 Premier’s Volunteer Champion Awards Recipient – John Blackstock
The Victorian Premiers Volunteer Champion Awards recognise the outstanding contribution of community members across Victoria. This year long-time volunteer, John Blackstock was acknowledged in a formal ceremony at Government House on 9 September 2018.
John has volunteered at St Mary’s continuously for six years! He has always been a flexible and tirelessly hardworking member of the St Mary’s team. John regularly works in the kitchen, helping the Chef to prepare meals; completes the weekly Foodbank pick up; and provides social support to homeless and disadvantaged men on fishing trips and BBQ outings. Service users and staff love John and appreciate his calm and approachable manner.
The Victorian Premier’s Volunteer Champion Awards were created to recognise the incredible impact volunteers have in building our communities, services and connections. The award categories include Leadership, Impact, Service and Teamwork. All awardees were recognised with a special presentation at Government House and received a badge and certificate to note the occasion. The Governor of Victoria, The Hon Linda Dessau AC noted that “the awards provides the chance to thank some outstanding volunteers, among the many 1.5 million who volunteer their talent and time to help improve the lives of those around them.”
On behalf of everyone both service users and staff, thank you for your commitment John, and again congratulations on this prestigious award.
Thank you for your time and support to St Mary’s.
