Winter Appeal 2019
Winter is the worst time for Geoff.
“It’s more than just a hot meal and a shower and programs. Winter in Melbourne is bloody cold. It’s warm here – Not just the warm heaters. It’s everything about the place – the staff, the volunteers, the friends I’ve made…They look out for me. St Mary’s House of Welcome feels like home to me.” – Geoff, Service User
This winter, help give people like Geoff a warm meal, a hot shower and the support they deserve.
In winter, when it’s cold outside, and temperatures plummet to below zero on some nights, demand for St Mary’s House of Welcome’s services increases greatly.
Men and women who have been sleeping rough in freezing conditions – in parks, under bridges, in the stands of the local footy oval – start to queue at our doors as the day breaks. People like Geoff, whose story you can read below.
Each winter, demand for St Mary’s House of Welcome’s services grows.
This winter, we expect to serve people who are experiencing chronic homelessness up to 15,000 hot meals, provide 2,000 warm showers and over 200 psycho-social support sessions. We will also provide material support – such as clean underwear, socks and clothes -, case management, social inclusion and health promotion activities, referrals, haircuts, laundry services and much more.
We simply can’t do it without your help.
A gift from you today of $125 will help provide warm winter bedding for someone sleeping rough on the street. A larger gift of $250 will help provide 45 nutritious, hot, two-course meals for people who would otherwise go hungry.
Whatever gift you choose to give, you will be helping some of the most vulnerable and marginalised people in our community.
Please give as you can.
